The MC112CS is a media converter designed to convert media from 100BASE-FX optical cabling to 100Base-TX metallic cabling and vice versa. Thanks to WDM technology, the MC112CS module uses only one optical cable for sending and receiving data, which halves cabling costs. The MC112CS media converter, designed according to the IEEE 802.3u 10/100Base-TX and 100Base-FX standards, is intended for use with a single-mode (SM) optical cable with an SC type connector. The MC112CS media converter supports the long-wavelength laser (LX) specification at maximum packet forwarding rate. It uses a wavelength of 1,310 nm for sending data and 1,550 nm for receiving data. This means that the other end device must use a wavelength of 1,550 nm for sending data and 1,310 nm for receiving data in order to work with the MC112CS module. The TP-Link MC111CS media converter is an example of a unit that works with the MC112CS module.
Other features of this module include the option to be used as a standalone device (no chassis required), automatic MDI/MDI-X detection for the TX port, automatic duplex mode negotiation on the TX port, and status LED indicators on the front panel. The MC112CS device supports data transmission over single-mode (Single Mode, SM) optical cable up to a distance of 20 km.
