Marimex ProStar 2000 sand filter

The ProStar 2000 sand filter, made in the Czech Republic, is suitable for pools up to 8 m3 in volume. It is therefore ideal primarily for smaller pools.
How does a sand filter work?
The ProStar 2000 sand filter takes its principle from nature - here too, rainwater is turned into crystal-clear spring water through filtration in permeable rock layers. In a sand filter, water passes through siliceous sand, where even fine impurities are trapped, and only clean, filtered water returns to the pool. It is therefore important to backwash the filter sand often so that impurities do not settle in the sand. We recommend backwashing the filter at least once a week.
Composition and description of the sand filter
The ProStar 2000 sand filter system consists of a filter tank, which holds 10 kg of filter sand. The tank is made of high-quality polypropylene (PP). It resists corrosion and the commonly available chemicals used in pools.
In addition to its attractive modern design, it also impresses with its compact dimensions and the practically built-in pump with a coarse debris strainer directly in the tank body. The 6-way valve also offers, among other things, a reduced position for winter shutdown.

  Filter media
  Which media to choose for pool filtration?
  Filter sand
  A proven classic for most common filters. Natural siliceous sand with a grain size of approx. 0.6–1.2 mm traps impurities of 20–40 microns in size, and its main advantages are low price and wide availability. Its service life is approximately 1–2 seasons, after which the sand can still be put to practical use, for example in garden or path maintenance. Its disadvantages are higher weight and lower efficiency compared with more modern media.
  Marimex Balls filter balls
  A modern alternative medium made of fine polyester fibres. The balls are extremely light (450 g replaces 17 kg of sand) and trap even very fine impurities from 3 microns in size. They can be washed repeatedly and used for up to 5 seasons. However, they are less suitable for some types of filters (e.g. with automatic backwash) and are not compatible with flocculators.
  Zeolite
  A natural mineral of volcanic origin with exceptional filtration properties. Thanks to its microporous structure, it traps impurities as small as 2–3 microns and, in addition, helps reduce the chlorine content of the water by binding ammonia and other substances. It has a longer service life (up to 5 seasons) than sand and higher efficiency, but it is important to choose the correct grain size for the given type of filter. Compared with sand, it is also somewhat more expensive and heavier.

  Tips for reducing operating costs
  If you use a reduced electricity tariff (i.e. night-time current), you can switch the filter on during the period when this tariff is active. For the filter, you can buy a timer socket at hardware stores or online, which switches the filter off and on at a set time. This can significantly reduce operating costs.
