- How do I know which battery belongs in my UPS?
- Take out the old battery and copy the voltage, capacity and dimensions from its label, typically 12 V and 7 to 9 Ah, 151 × 65 × 94 mm. For every replacement battery we state these figures and the terminal type (Faston F1 4.8 mm or F2 6.3 mm). Some UPS units use a set of several batteries, and all of them must be replaced at once.
- Can I use a battery with a higher capacity?
- Yes, provided it has the same voltage and fits the battery compartment; the UPS then runs longer. Charging takes longer, and in a small UPS the charger may not make full use of the extra capacity. Never mix an old and a new battery in one set.
- How often is the UPS battery replaced?
- A lead-acid UPS battery usually lasts 3 to 5 years, less in a warm room. The signs are a shorter backup time, a UPS alert or a failed self-test. Do not throw the old battery in household waste: hand it in at a battery collection point.
