- How big a rack do I need?
- Add up the height of all equipment in rack units (1 U = 44.45 mm): switch 1 U, patch panel 1 U, UPS 2 U, server 1 to 2 U, shelf 1 U. Add at least 30 % spare for cable routing and future growth. A home or small office is fine with a 6 to 12 U wall-mount cabinet; a server room takes a 42 U floor-standing rack.
- What should I watch with the depth?
- The cabinet depth must be 10 to 15 cm more than the deepest device including connectors. Switches and patch panels are 25 to 35 cm deep, UPS units and servers 45 to 80 cm. Wall-mount cabinets are usually 40 to 60 cm deep; a 70 cm deep server needs a floor-standing rack 100 cm deep.
- What are 19-inch and 10-inch?
- 19 inches (482.6 mm) is the standard width of the mounting frame that fits ordinary switches, patch panels and servers. 10-inch cabinets are a smaller variant for homes, taking only 10-inch patch panels and small switches, or ordinary devices on a shelf. Most equipment in our range is 19-inch.
- Are cabinets delivered assembled?
- It depends on the model: smaller wall-mount cabinets usually come assembled, larger floor-standing racks are shipped knocked down (flat pack) and take about an hour to assemble. We state this in the specifications. Floor-standing racks are heavy and bulky, so allow room for unpacking and a second person to handle them.
