Frequently asked questions

What fan size do I need?
120 mm and 140 mm are the most common, the case maker states the available positions. A larger fan moves the same air at lower speed and is therefore quieter. Screw spacing is 105 mm for 120 mm fans and 125 mm for 140 mm fans.
What do PWM and 3-pin mean?
A PWM (4-pin) fan can be regulated smoothly by the board according to temperature, a 3-pin fan runs at fixed or voltage-controlled speed. For a quiet PC we recommend PWM. Both types plug into the board's 4-pin header.
How many fans and where?
The basis is one or two intake fans at the front and one exhaust at the back. Top positions are used for exhaust or a liquid cooling radiator. More intake than exhaust keeps a slight positive pressure in the case and less dust.
