Frequently asked questions

What do the speed classes U3, V30 and A2 mean?
U3 and V30 guarantee a sustained write of 30 MB/s, enough for 4K video. V60 and V90 are for professional cameras with high bitrates. A1 and A2 rate random-access speed and suit cards in a phone or game console that run applications. For a camera or drone we recommend at least V30.
SD, microSD or CFexpress?
Go by the slot in the device: cameras and laptops take SD, phones, drones, action cameras and consoles microSD, the newest professional cameras CFexpress type A or B. A microSD card can be used in an SD slot with the included adapter. Capacities above 32 GB are the SDXC format, which older devices may not support.
Which card capacity should I choose?
For a phone and photos 64 to 128 GB is enough; for 4K video 256 GB or more, as an hour of 4K takes roughly 20 to 45 GB. Check the maximum supported capacity in the device manual. For a camera two smaller cards are safer than one large one: a failure does not cost you everything.
Can I use the camera card in a dashcam or a phone?
Yes, if the size fits, but format the card in the new device itself before use, not in a computer. For continuously recording cameras and recorders choose a card labelled High Endurance, which tolerates constant rewriting; an ordinary card wears out in a camera within months. For a phone where the card will serve as internal storage, choose class A2.
