Frequently asked questions

How much memory do I need?
16 GB is enough for office work and the web, we recommend 32 GB for gaming and photo work and 64 GB for video editing, virtualisation and AI models. Buy memory as a kit of two modules so the board runs in dual-channel mode, which is faster.
DDR4 or DDR5?
Your motherboard decides the type and they cannot be swapped. DDR5 is faster and used on AM5 and LGA1851 boards, DDR4 is cheaper and common on LGA1700 and AM4. The specifications of both memory and board list the type and the maximum supported frequency.
Can I mix different memory modules?
Technically yes if they are the same type, but the board then runs at the speed of the slowest module and errors can occur. We recommend a kit of identical modules from one maker. When upgrading, send us the part number of your current module and we will advise.
What do XMP and EXPO mean?
They are profiles stored in the memory that the board loads with one BIOS setting so the memory runs at its rated speed. Without them the memory runs at its base frequency. XMP is the profile for Intel boards, EXPO for AMD; on builds from our workshop we enable the profile during testing.
