- How do I know which processor fits my motherboard?
- The socket and the chipset decide. Intel Core 12th to 14th gen uses LGA1700, Core Ultra 200 uses LGA1851, AMD Ryzen 5000 uses AM4 and Ryzen 7000 and 9000 use AM5. An older board may need a BIOS update. Our configurator checks processor and board compatibility automatically.
- Do I need a separate cooler for the processor?
- Some processors ship without a cooler (Intel models marked K and KF, higher AMD Ryzen 7 and 9 models). Boxed coolers are stated in the product name or specifications. For processors above 65 W TDP we recommend a tower cooler or liquid cooling from the Cooling shelf.
- Does the processor have integrated graphics, or do I need a graphics card?
- Intel Core without the F suffix and AMD Ryzen with a G suffix or from the 7000 and 9000 series have integrated graphics, enough for office work, web and video. Intel F or KF models and older Ryzen without G have none, and the PC shows no picture without a card. For a processor with integrated graphics the configurator makes the graphics card step optional.
- What is the difference between a boxed and a tray processor?
- A boxed processor comes in the manufacturer's retail box, usually with a cooler and the manufacturer's full warranty. A tray processor comes without a box and cooler and is usually cheaper. Both carry the statutory 24-month consumer warranty.
